Ceremonies

St Nicholas' is available for baptisms, weddings and funerals:

Christenings

We have 2 ways of asking for God's blessing on babies and young children, sometimes called Christening. You might like to invite family and friends for either of these services:

  1. Thanksgiving - we thank God for the gift of this new life
  2. Baptism - parents and godparents make definite promises of Christian faith on behalf of the child

Contact the Office to discuss which is more appropriate for you

Weddings

Planning to get married? Congratulations!
We are delighted to have couples coming to get married in our lovely church. There are some legal requirements that have to be fulfilled before we can agree to a wedding, and we will provide marriage preparation sessions before the big day. To enquire about a wedding at St Nicholas' either come to a service and introduce yourselves, or contact the Office and someone will get back to you.

Funerals

If you're thinking about a funeral, we want to help you at this difficult time.
Residents of the parish are eligible for burial in the churchyard or we can bury ashes following a church or crematorium funeral with cremation.
Please contact the Office directly if you have questions - or your Funeral Directors can book a date with us and we will call you straight away.

Planning your Visit

A Warm Hello

The following information is specifically for those thinking of visiting us, so that you know, beforehand, what to expect on a Sunday morning.

Where and When

St Nicholas’ meets at the parish church by the canal bridge for our Sunday Service starting at 10:45am. We meet outside the church for coffee from 10:15 (served from Heni's barge on the canal - just beyond the humpback bridge). We are no longer operating a booking system, there's plenty of space for anyone who wants to come.

Plan your journey:

Open Google Maps

Parking: You can park (free) for up to 3 hours at the George pub next to the church. If you're not visiting the pub, it is courteous to use the right-hand side of the car park.

Accessibility: There is wheelchair access, and a sound loop for anyone who needs it. Please let one of the Welcome Team know on your arrival and they will help you to get set up. There is a disabled toilet available.

Getting Connected

To receive email updates about changes to our services due to Coronavirus, or to sign up to receive general information about church events, please join our mailing list (this will take you to an external website run by MailChimp).

Home Groups

While Sundays are a great way to meet new people, it is often in smaller gatherings that you can really get to know someone. Being part of one of our small groups allows you to make new friends, share together and support each other. We have two groups that meet on Zoom on Tuesday or Wednesday. Check out Home Groups to find out more, or we can put you in touch with a home group leader who will be more than happy to invite you along to their group.
